Uranus Keyword Correspondences and Associations

Uranus was found in 1781 and it is the only planet that does not spin in its orbit. For all of the other planets, what is north to us on Earth is pretty much also north on those planets, but on Uranus, north is almost perpendicular to our north. As such, Uranus is the planet of individuality and non-conformity. Individuality is something wild that is inherent to the structure of our minds and it’s the part that rebels and changes things, it starts revolutions because it respects no authority. “Uranus challenges us to be free. […] It symbolizes an area in which our essence makes war on the constraints imposed on us by our culture. To be true to ourselves, we must break the rules” (Inner Sky).

Beyond the conformity of Saturn, Uranus brings out our inner genius and spiritual transformation. Uranus breaks down the barriers that Saturn created and shakes up the status quo to bring in a new order. Uranus was found during a time of global consciousness where the American Revolution just occurred, the French Revolution was imminent, and the Age of Enlightenment was just beginning.

The negative aspects of Uranus include contrariness, stubbornness, inflexibility, touchiness, quirkiness, unreliability, irresponsibility, selfishness, insensitive to others’ feelings, inability to learn from others, and eccentricity for its own sake.

Uranus in the Chart

You usually feel stimulated and awakened by someone whose natal Uranus connects with the personal planets in your birth chart. Whether you experience this as exciting and inspiring or upsetting and stressful depends on the planets and people involved. It’s hard to predict the ramifications of a Uranus contact, but one thing is certain: you won’t be the same after the experience.

The Uranian Symbol

planetary symbol for uranus

The symbol of Uranus is a circle representing the Sun below a cross representing the Earth and with two crescents (representing the Moon) facing outward, connected to the arms of the cross. This shows a balance of the cross with change (the two crescents) and dominating the circle. Meaning that it represents the manifestation and radiation of ideas into reality.

Uranian Magic

Uranus electrifies, personalizes, or disturbs what it touches.

Uranus is the first of the outer planets, which are more concerned with cosmic and universal conditions than personal ones. Therefore, it is nearly impossible to control Uranus’s energy. All we can do is guide our responses to its effects in our lives. Uranus can help you create change – but you might not be able to control how that change occurs or what the outcome will be.

This planet is powerful and its force is often destructive; it corresponds to The Tower in tarot. Uranus can be an asset when you are working in the higher realms because it serves as a link to the astral world. Uranus often acts as a catalyst to action, pushing you to make necessary changes in your life. Tap into its energy when you want to get out of a rut, be inventive or daring, stand up to authority, break though boundaries, or seek higher truths.

Uranus will help you to improve your intuition and promote higher thinking.

Abode of Gods, whose guardian pow'r surrounds th' eternal World with ever during bounds;
