Journaling Supplies ✧
I use various supplies when making my journal spreads!
Journals
I have a preference for dot grid A5-sized journals, these are the ones I've used and loved:
- Exceed from Wal-mart was my first journal. Slightly skinnier than an A5. Cream colored paper. Cheap. Decent starter journal.
- Vivid Scribbles are great 160 gsm journals. I upgraded to this brand after my first journal.
- Artist's Loft from Michael's, specifically the Level 2 journals. These are 120 gsm and slightly wider than A5 with numbered pages. Takes paint well! I use these journals for commonplacing and spread testing.
- String & Space only makes one journal, but it's beautiful! With holographic page edges and a simple star on the cover, I'm using this journal as my Star Trek journal.
- Archer & Olive makes gorgeous journals! This is my primary brand because they have such a variety of covers. I would consider these journals more on the luxury side of journals. They have several sizes and cover types available in white 160 gsm paper.
Highlighters & Markers
These are basically all of the highlighters and markers I use for my spreads. Sorry for the Amazon links!
- TWOHANDS Liners in black come in a variety of sizes. I didn't love their brush tip, but use the rest of the black pens in this set often. It's a fine Micron dupe.
- Staedtler Triplus Fineliners come in lots of packs, but I have the 20 pack. It's a good variety of colors and are great for line work.
- Crayola Super Tip Markers are incredible. I have a 50 pack that's at least a decade old, but I'd love to get the 100 pack when my set is done. These marker tips have a flexible tip that allow you to do faux-brush lettering. I love these!!
- Stabilo Pastel Highlighters are some of my least-used highlighters. They're a bit too juicy and the chisel tip is slightly bigger than I prefer. That said, I do like their pastel shades.
- Zebra Mildliners are dual-tipped highlighters, where one side is a chisel tip (about 3mm) and the other side is a fine point tip. I have the 15 pack and I think it's a good variety of color.
- Tombow Dual Tip Markers come in singles or in packs, I got the majority of mine in singles. It has a brush tip on one side and a fine tip on the other. They blend really nicely.
- Sharpie S-Note Highlighters come in a 24 pack. They are chisel-tipped with a nice variety of color, different enough from the other sets of highlighters listed here.
- Ohuhu Journal Pens are dual-tipped. One side is a dot and the other is a small brush tip. These colors come in basic shades and some metallic shades. It's a good basic set, I got it as a gift.
- Archer & Olive's Calliographs are dual-tipped brush markers, where both sides are brush tip. Older sets are unfortunately not restocked, so it's hard to find them. But they have a great range of color.
Washi Tape
The majority of my washi tape is difficult to source. A good chunk of it was purchased at Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree, Daiso, Michael's, and Amazon. I've also received washi tapes as gifts and trades with penpals. Some washi tapes in my journals are actually stickers from my shop.
I've done my best to source the brand and purchase location of my tapes in my swatch book.
Coming soon: a video flipthrough of my washi tapes.
Stickers
Most of the stickers I've used in my 2019-2023 spreads were purchased at Michael's, Dollar Tree, and Daiso. Some stickers were also received as gifts and in trades with penpals.
The majority of the stickers used in 2023-2025 come from my shop.
